It's not useless for people who've never played with the WC3 editor or don't know much about it, and are looking forward to learning with the SC2 editor.

As for map sizes, just change the sizes of your units. That will "increase" the distance of things.

I know. That's one solution. The value in warcraft 3 would be 0.80 - 0.85, anything smaller would mess with other proportions, like terrain texture, etc.

The idea behind larger maps than 256 is obvious. Ofcourse there are "solutions" to the map size problem, but that's just it. It breaks the idea of having everything in a huge map (more than 256) and still be able to use linking.

For the mini map problem, pages can be provided as solution, setting up the mini map into a 2x2 table, each containing 256x256 map size. Clicking on each of the cells in the table will zoom that minimap out.

Panning can also work, and obviously there are solutions.

But, what in Raynor's name is the truth about the inability for larger maps than 256x256? Multi-player? Then keep the thing only for UMS!

Jee-zeus! I hate myself for wanting more than 256x256 map sizes -- duck it, frack, sheet!

Since we're here sharing our ideas, maybe we should also share our specialties and weaknesses to help us get together and team up for better maps. I really like making custom units, but I'm not very good with terrain design. I'm sort of in the middle when it comes to triggers, but I don't have that much experience with triggers since I've never made my own map from the ground up, just tweaked other maps I've thought had issues.

Alright... I like to fiddle terrain.The only reason I didn't map for WC3 is because I couldn't host games, effectively making my map useless if no one could play it. Otherwise I would have gone full blown.

Triggers/scripting is my favorite. I suck at terrain - but enjoy doing it as well, especially "extended" terrain i.e. using tiles in creative ways that they weren't meant to be used. My storylines aren't the best - I'm not good with dialogue, but I've yet to tackle a serious story-intensive project. I know how to use programs like adobe audition, so some of my maps will have custom voices.

Map Idea: Have a mission centered around a custom hero named "Thor Metzen". I'll extract sound bits from blizzcon lore panels and use some of Chris's catchphrases as the unit sounds.

You should have given a friend your maps on a disc or something to host them for you.

It'd get too annoying, besides, none of my friends really have any interest in WarCraft 3, or StarCraft for that matter.

Anyway, I am liking Blizzard's examples of Mirrored maps (Kulas Ravine, Scrapyard). Their design, though similar, have different depth and detail to them that makes them truly fun to play!

DarkBoy, can you take out the "and please no super mario worlds" part? That would make this work weak.
