Yeah it's self-defense if you don't overdo it. If a woman threw a punch at me I wouldn't punch her back because in that case I'd probably cause some major bodily damage and get in trouble, rightly so.

Of course if that woman attacks you with a baseball bat things become different.

If a woman throws a punch at you then you put her in a submission hold and go easy so they won't have any damage to complain about even though they chose to ignore gender boundaries/social taboos.
