I say fuck the formalities. There are a half dozen threads in recent weeks which have touched on the subject of government welfare and government babysitting. I propose 6 legislative changes, all within Constitutional boundaries that would eliminate almost a majority of our ills.

$1000 for sterilization, both men and women.
Imagine the tax dollars that would be saved by this one time expenditure. No more welfare babies, or at least a dramatic reduction. Any woman silly enough to take $1000 in exchange for their fertility isn't fit to be a mother. Either that, or their smart beyond their years, either way it's a wise investment. I seriously believe that this country needs to stop being a bunch of politically correct pussies and start doing what needs to be done.

All inmates must work 40 hours weekly contributing to cleaning up our streets and parks.
No more TV and weight benches. Our inmates will serve 40 hours a week doing community clean up or other projects that might create revenue for the prison systems. The balance of their time will be spent in solitary confinement with no access to any entertainment except for books. The prisons will be compensated for their work at a rate of $1.00/hr. per laborer. This will replace the tax dollars spent on our current failing system. Additionally, people may decide that jail isn't necessarily the place they want to live, and perhaps we might see a reduction in crime when there is actually a deterrent involved. And no more jail workshops where inmates earn income. Screw that, this is jail bitch.

Flat tax for everyone, poor included.
If you don't make much, you don't pay much. I don't have the exact math, but I once read a great article that suggested a flat tax as low as 1%. The kicker was that this tax was levied on everything including financial transactions such as stock and bond sales. The math appeared to work. This would truly be an equitable tax.

Citizenship is available to anyone that can pass a comprehensive English test.
Both written and verbal. If you care to learn the language, then you're a viable candidate in my eyes. Illegal? Get the hell out until you learn the language. This will include an amendment that creates a national language...English. $1 million dollar fine for any company found employing illegal aliens, period. It's not difficult to ask for identification.

Medicare and Social Security is OUT!
No more government programs for the old. Anyone under the age of 40 will lose all future benefits. We have to cut off the leg before it spreads to the rest of the body. Yes, it's a real bitch of a solution and some people are going to have a tough time. But we cannot continue to watch as this pyramid scheme spirals out of control. Do not punish our children because you were too stupid or lazy to save and invest properly.

Legalize all drugs.
Some of you may be surprised to hear me say this. I believe in the rule of law, even when I disagree with said law. However, I also feel that the law needs changing. Given the proper context, I believe we could convince people to see the light. The answer is not rebellion, but legislative change. Drug laws are useless as was proven with prohibition. Remove the drug laws and you will eliminate a majority of crime.

I'll agree with you that the prison system needs to change, and I like your overall idea. But instead of immigrants stealing our jobs it'll be the prisoners that now take these desirable jobs, eh? Anyhow, I think we need to acctually make prisons live up to their "correctional" claims by bringing in more people that can acctually help prisoners rehabilitate. Do that, and we can work toward increasing quality of life for everyone.

Truthfully, whatever it takes to make inmates uncomfortable is fine by me. But there is such an amazing amount of clean up that needs to be done on our roads and parks that it would take 20 years before a single government employee would be affected. True, it might make some impact, but I think the overall good would negate the loss of a few jobs. I like the idea of reaping some benefit from our incarcerated citizens.

That is why we have health insurance. We could still initiate some level of disability services for those that are incapable of caring for themselves. I'm not opposed to that.
