Ok then, I see what you mean. In Australia (or at least me ) use 'bi' to donote twice something. Bi-weekly = twice a week.

This sort of thing is why English is the hardest language to learn.

I've always wondered whether bisexuals are attracted to men and women at the same time, or if there's a sort of switch in their libido that goes back and forth. Anybody know?

Well the topic was "Where hath the Weekly got to?"
I believe that answer was "No Weekly this week [last week] check back next week [this week]."

The same arguement can be made about bicycles. I guess it doesn't depend on the prefix, but the word getting the prefix.

Not really. You can only choose from people who are also interested in you. Most people, regardless of their sexuality, only have quite a small group of people to choose from.
