The Definitive Guide to the Man, and How He is Keeping You Down

The Definitive Guide to the Man, and How He is Keeping You Down

Prologue

A solitary man stood in the fields outside the city. He was watching the sun set and the wind was blowing in his face. He smelled something in the air... perhaps he smelled change, and these were the winds of change for the bustling city to his back. Something was stirring... perhaps it was the shape of the future itself...

Chapter 1: What are Infractions?

In short, infractions are warnings passed out by the moderators, senior moderators, and administrators. These are designed to modify whatever undisireable behavior is occuring before it is needed to ban the user. Depending on the severity of the misbehavior that occurs have a point value, with the least severe being worth 1 point, and most being worth 30. These points expire after 10 days. In short, you can get an infraction for something worth 1 point, however after 10 days that point will no longer be added to your total points.

Chapter 2: What can I get infractions for?

This list will be as complete as possible, the current infractions and thier values are as follows:
Thread Necromancy 1
Signature violation (Signature too big) 1
Forum Specific Rule Violation 1
Staff Sass 1
Threadjacking 1
Off Topic Posting 1
Flaming 2
Spamming (1 thread) 3
Staff Flaming 5
Impersonating Staff 5
Signature Violation (Sexual/Violent Content) 5
Severe Flaming 7
Spamming (Multiple Threads) 9
Posting Pornography 10
Executing Malicious Code on Forum 20
Attempts to access forum after being banned 30
Mass Spam 30

These points will be "active" for 10 days (unless otherwise set by the staff member issuing the infraction). Once they are inactive, they will no longer tally toward your banning, but will remain in your User Profile.

Serious Discussion - Flamebating 1

Chapter 3: Oh HOLY GOD, what happens when I get X points!?

Well you don't have to start worrying until you get to 10, 20, or 30 points accumulated in 10 days.

10 points = 5 day ban
20 points = 2 week ban
30 points = permaban

You will notice that several of the infractions will result in an instant ban of varying degrees. These "one shot kills" as they might be called are there for a reason, as anyone here knows, in some cases seconds are all that stand between seeing pages and pages of goatse and tubgirl and not.

Chapter 4: I think a mod is corrupt for giving me an infraction!

Every infraction is stored in the staff forum, giving us the the ability to review and if needed retract an infraction. If you feel that your special crime is a miscarriage of justice or whatever, feel free to post here in the Help Desk forum or PM an administrator or senior moderator. We're more than happy to check out the issue and get back to you.

When you say "Impersonating Staff", im just curious to know what the hell that's supposed to mean. But other than that, sounds great and im happy we finally have a concrete system in place.

By Impersonating Staff I mean trying to put "Administrator", "Moderator", or any other staff title as your title, or otherwise trying to act like staff.

I got two infractions, I demand them to be checked and removed unconditionally. :p

Lets say you were to get 30 points and get perm-banned is there anyway for that to be rescinded and get unbanned after a certain amount of time.. Or what if you want to contest after being banned how would you go about doing that...

I think you shouldn't be able to come back if you can get 30 points in under 10 days. Thats going to far. If people can't control how they act here, then why should they be allowed back?

What part of Permabanned is not clear?

Re: The Definitive Guide to the Man, and How He is Keeping You Down

Whether or not we can come back. Mass spamming for instances, is performed by me and bullet2head. And in this case, we might go too far and end up being banned permenantly. Therefore, I also question of this.

What the hell don't you guys get? It doesn't matter if you have been here for years, Eclap said if you spam constantly and get those 30 points, then your gone. Learn how to control yourself or you shouldn't be allowed to be here, which is called Perma-Ban.

What?

Does that mean I have to put on the music "Breaking The Habit" in the background to remind me not to have a spamming habit? :(

This is unfair, but if you please. I shall be attending the StarCraft Forums once again...

Re: The Definitive Guide to the Man, and How He is Keeping You Down

Ask any sane person if these rules are unfair. They will give you a slap to the head. Spamming is bad, it doens't matter who you are or why you can't stop doing it. Maybe you need some psychological help, or meds, it doesn't matter why you spam or who you are. You get banned if you do it constantly. Now I know why the administration has such a hard time dealing with this place.

Re: The Definitive Guide to the Man, and How He is Keeping You Down

Mind you that some of this is left to the descression of the staff member who's issuing the infraction. Normal posting is ok, however if you're hitting every forum with 3 letter replies or generally being a dumbass, then you may get the 30, however more than likely you won't. That is the most severe case of spamming.

Also if you feel you got banned and you don't deserve it, you can easily find IM info of many of the staff members who can bring the issue up to the rest of the staff.

Please also note 2 new infractions have been added.

Red: discretion is the word elcap wanted to use.
