Ogame is a strategic space simulation game with thousands of players across the world competing with each other simultaneously. All you need to play is a standard web browser. OGame is a game of intergalactic conquest. You start out with just one undeveloped world and turn that into a mighty empire able to defend your hard earned colonies. --Ogame.org (http://ogame.org)

Useful Ogame links:

Ogame.org (http://ogame.org) -- The english Ogame site. You can log into any of the 18 english universes (18 at time of typing, they add more all the time).

Ogame Tutorial (http://tutorial.ogame.de/index.php?newlang=eng) -- A very helpful tutorial for beginners explaining how to start out when building your intergalactic empire.

Speedsim (http://www.speedsim.de.vu/eng) -- Here you can download speedsim, a program which will simulate battles for you based on fleet data you input. Anyone who plays should have this as it will tell you if you are going to win a fight or not (always check it before attacking). It should come with the english language file, but if not then download eng_lang.ini which is available on the downloads page.

If anyone has any more good links please PM me with them and I'll be sure to add them. And as this is an FAQ, if you have any simple questions on how to play or how things work (not strategy) feel free to ask in this thread.

Can I log into any of the universes at any time, or do I commit to a single universe when I create my account?

Is there a single universe that the majority of BlizzForums members play on?

Your account allows you to create one imperium per universe, you are not limited to the amount of universes you might play in.
However, only one account per universe per players is allowed. :)

I have been playing at uni2 for over a year now.
Got to play OGame through the Blizzforums clan.

Yeh most of us play uni2. THough not as many still play. Only ones I can think of that still play from BF are dElo, Ace, Mixx, Tamil, greyscale and myself.

Theres probably some others that still play or play other uni's.

Fuck him. He doesnt count.

Kaer you should do a global announcement to try and get people back...though it might be to hard for most to catch up in uni2.

We could always start uni21 though!

I'd be interested, but I remember how much time Imperial Conflict sucked out of my day, and I'm feeling apprehensive of joining any other galactic-conquest games.

The first thing I've noticed is that the whole game plays out in real time, unlike other online strategy games which tend to live on hourly updates instead.

Yup, eal time, even if you log out the acc still goes on without you. It has it's pro's and con's but in the end it's all good.

You should read the faq section of the ogame boards for more info on the game.

Due to some unfortunate events TBB.TC has decided to abandon this policy until further notice.

Holy Crap.

My account has been completely mangled :( stupid grounding. I couldnt even get into vac mode either. Anyone have a new account? This one is fubar.

BrownDawg
08-08-2006, 01:35 AM
Dayum Ace, that's lame. But just build up the mines of the account you have right now and nothing else. Then try to go for fleet again. Seriously man, you're cursed with this game. :p

Btw, sucks to be you, when my parents kick me off the comp out of rage, they let me fleetsave first. :D

Acϵ♠
08-08-2006, 01:03 PM
I cant build up the mines anymore, they're like at level 25-ish and are gonna cost millions to build up even more. I went from 120k points to 64k thanks to my asshole parents.

missilX
08-08-2006, 01:29 PM
What? If you have 8-9 planets with level 25 mines then you are set man. You should be pumping out enuff res to get up in no time.

Right, but i have no motivation. Maybe im just not cut out for ogame anymore.

Join the wing. You cant bring them down. Not saying they suck...Just saying they will help you allllot.

Sfinx
08-24-2006, 02:47 PM
Going to give this a try as well :p

First following the steps of the "Gettin started" tutorial - they speak of colonizing new planets preferably at positions 4-5-6 but when I go to the galaxy tab those positions are taken.

Btw how does this game works in regards to newbs... do I have to fear for being overwhelmend/wiped out immediately? Some basic help would be very appreciated ^^

missilX
08-24-2006, 04:09 PM
Well I would read the tutorials as best you can. As a begining player you will be free from attack from people over 5000 points, untill you reach that point level, then anyone can attack you. Theres two different ways you can start. One being economy and one being militaristic. Both have their advantages and disadvantages. I would recommend going economy first since you starting very late into the universe so many people will be too far above you for you to do good damage at this point (unles your surrounded by alot of inactives). I would also apply to [TYB] The Young Blizzards. Its our main alliances wing. They will help you out alot there. Also we have a free account I think, Ill talk to BS, and if so, we can probably get you hooked up with an ok account for now.

Sfinx
08-24-2006, 04:17 PM
Fine. I read those tutorials but apart from a basic building order and some explanation about raiding, resources etc, I don't seem to find any information about the actual game options like fleet building and exploring the galaxy, attacking another planet etc. Would be nice to know how those things work, when I should do it and what I need.

Btw, already applied to TYB. Is there a huge disadvantage starting from scratch? Does it matter how old your acc is for enjoying this game? I don't like the idea of taking over an acc I haven't established myself - but if you say it's best, so be it.

Edit: I wondered... since I'm defenseless for the moment, with only a few basic buildings, waiting for more resources to upgrade/build more... can someone steal my resources now?

Acϵ♠
08-24-2006, 04:24 PM
Sfinx, you're most likely going to end up with my old account, so i'll talk to MissilX about giving it to you.

Sfinx
08-24-2006, 04:36 PM
I'm not 100% sure I'm going to keep playing this game, I'd first like to try it out before I involve myself into serious deals. Wouldn't want to ruin anything, or disappoint anyone. Once I'm into something though, I usually go for it.

Which brings me to the next question - how many time do you really spend on this game?

Acϵ♠
08-24-2006, 04:50 PM
you mean how much time? ummm i'd usually have it open whenever on the internet, so whatever time you spend on the internet then that's probably how much time, give or take.

missilX
08-24-2006, 09:37 PM
OGame is the type of game that you can play for 5 minutes a day, or for 5 hours a day. Its completely up to you. To get resources there are 3 ways.

1. Mines: You have mines that you can build up and they will always yeild a certain amount of res per hour depending on the level of those mines. There are metal, crystal and deuterium mines. Deuterium is used as fuel and for certain buildings/ships/researches. Generally starting out a good way is to keep your mines at a (I forget how to ratio looks so Ill just type it out in mines): Level 10 metal mine, you would want a level 8 crystal followed by a level 6 deuterium. That setup would get you through the beginning untill you decide what types of things you build and what mines you need most of.

2. Raiding: This is when you attack a planet to gain resources. Simple. Spy the person, enter theyre defences, techs, fleets into a program called Speedsim (link on first page I think). Then enter your stuff in the attacking fields, then click sim and see if you come out on top and will make enough to cover loses. Remember on attacking per wave you can only gain half of whats on the planet. So for instance say there was 300 Metal 300 Crystal and 300 deuterium. No matter how much shit you send you will only get 150 Metal 150 Crystal and 150 deuterium. Also remember you can only attack the same planet 6 times per 24 hours unless you are at war. This is important as you can get temp banned.

3. Fleet Crashing: This is when you attack some to destroy their fleet to create a massive Debris field. A DF is resources from the ships destroyed that you can collect. I think its 33% of the destroyed shit that goes into a df. So say a battleship costs 40 000 Metal and 20 000 Crystal, 33% of that metal and crystal will be available for you to collect. This is a way to get massive amounts of resources. You do the same thing plugging theirs and your stuff into speed sim. ONly this time you must send recyclers on a seperate mission called Harvesting. This will send them to the DF to collect and not the battle.

So by now I figure you have discovered everything works in Real Time. When you send a ship to a planet it will take time depending on your research levels of certain engines and how far the other planet actually is. Also your buildings and researches take time as well. Everything is based in time. The game also continues even when you are logged out. So people can attack you just because your not logged in. Or you can send an attack log out and do something then come back and see the results ect. ect.

Also the point you are at no one can really attack you for resources. Unless they are also under 5000 points, which is unlikely. At this point in the game it might be hard to start from scratch since almost everyone else is far above you. But like I said this game is how you make it. The harder you play it the better you are guaranteed to do. I would recommend maybe playing your new account for a week to get a feel for the game, then try out another account such as Ace's whose will let you get a fleet and attack people. To see if you like it.

Also sending ships and exploring the galaxy works in co-ordinated. There are 3 spaces. The first space is the galaxy, the second space is the solar system, and the third space is the planet position. There are 9 galaxies currently I think, 1-499 solar systems in each galaxy, and 1-15 planet positions in each solar system.

Its confusing at first, but once you get the basic understanding, its much easier.
